Abstract: In the review Gorky's correspondence with his contemporaries: V. M. Molotov, A. N. Tikhonov, L. N. Seifullina, V. P. Pravdukhin, A.A. Bolotnikov, P. P. Muratov, S. Ya. Efron, N. N. Nikitin, L. F. Khinkulov, T. I. Glebova-Kameneva, A. Wegner, I. B. Galant. Of particular interest are the few, but even more valuable, unpublished letters of Gorky himself. Most letters of contemporaries to M. Gorky were published for the first time, they contain not only information about the life, destinies and needs of Soviet people; about the events of social life, but also valuable materials for creating a true history of Russian literature of the Soviet period, which is yet to be written. The correspondence reveals the cross-cutting stories of the history of Russian literature of the twentieth century. It is established that the letters of M. Gorky's contemporaries create a truthful and reliable picture of the tragic era of Russian history, show the role of the writer in the destinies of many people; and also allow to recreate the literary movement of the 1920s-1930s.
