Abstract: The article describes a lesson of home-reading of a novel “Lynx Tracks” by N.Nikonov. This is a tow-hour class
that aims at expanding background knowledge, developing reading competence of students, practicing composition writing following
the model of the Unifies State Exam in Russian and introducing theoretical literary notions, important for those students who are
planning to take the Unifies State Exam in Literature. The second part of the lesson is a role-playing game “Literary Puzzle” that
sums up the material studied and helps the students prepare the rough version of the composition on one of the problems discussed
during the class. The lesson includes the following methods: teacher-centred approach, team-work and individual work with every
student; most of the lesson is an independent work of students on their oral or written opinion on the story under study.
