Abstract: This research focuses on an urgent phenomenon of modern culture – specific features of graphic adaptations of Rus-sian literary texts, i.e. such kind of art, in which a work of fiction is fully visualized by the author of the comic book. In recent years, this kind of art is becoming more and more popular in Russia, which is to a large extent associated with clip thinking, multiculturalism and globalization, involving both economic, political, social, and cultural spheres of life. Comic books and graphic adaptations occupy an important place among the interests of young people and constitute a significant constituent of expressing subjectness and indi-viduality of the modern youth. They allow the young people to get acquainted with Russian literature and to acquire and process value-based benchmarks of previous generations. The practical research material encompasses graphic adaptations of the most prominent Russian works of literature, such as “Crime and Punishment” by F. Dostoevsky, “Anna Karenina” by L. Tolstoy, “The Master and Margarita” by M. Bulgakov. The study employs the methods of literary semiotics and hermeneutics, and the methods of creolized text analysis – texts of a mixed syncretic nature that involve verbal and visual semiotic codes. The study also uses methods and techniques which are typical of cinematography. The investigation of the Russian literary text transformations, made by Russian and foreign painters, provides a new insight on the intercultural nature of graphic adaptations. By comparing the structure, semantic peculiarities, and visual techniques of Russian and foreign graphic adaptations, it is possible to discover the dominant points of the pre-text works of art, and to identify salient episodes that often attract the attention of the painters. The analysis of the graphic adaptations of Russian works of literature considered in this article make it possible to conclude that this genre is genetically connected with the art of comics, but is more complex and multifaceted. The graphic adaptation absorbs the features of film and theater art, which is expressed in montage techniques and script plan writing. The genre of graphic adapta-tion actualizes the visual potential of many classic and modern works of Russian literature and participates in modern intercultural communication along with other kinds of art.
