Abstract: The aim of this research is to draw scholars’ attention to a new trend associated with the replenishment of the academic Russian Orthographic Dictionary. Since 2016, the dictionary has had a digital version in addition to the printed one, allowing vocabulary base replenishment in real time. At present, the dictionary is replenished not only with words, but also with stable prepositional constructions. In accordance with a broad approach to Russian idiomatics, such constructions are also included in the category of phraseological ones. Some of them possess the quality of idiomatic constructions, some do not, but they are all lexicalized forms, they are similar to a word, that is, they have a meaning, a morphological characteristic, they are members of a sentence, and they are characterized by stability and reproducibility. The practical research material encompasses multi-component linguistic units – prepositional constructions collected via the complete sampling method from the Russian Orthographic Dictionary. The research sample consists of 27 linguistic units fixed in the dictionary from 2020 to 2023. The article analyzes various aspects of these stable prepositional constructions. As a result of the study, the authors make the following conclusions. First, from the point of view of the sphere of use, the dictionary fixes not only neutral or common stable prepositional constructions. Spoken, colloquial, and professional lexical units are widely represented in the dictionary. Second, some constructions have become original motivating forms for creating new language units. In this lexical group, there are instances of morphological-syntactic word formation, when an adverb turns into a preposition or an interjection. Third, the prepositional constructions, being sufficiently frequent usual units, develop polysemy. There is a semantic drift, metaphorization of certain forms; some prepositional constructions take on shades of irony, humor, or sarcasm. Fourth, many word forms are characterized by ellipsis. Being mostly phraseological combinations, that is, forms allowing variability, while entering the dictionary they lose their unstable member, and only a stable prepositional construction forms a dictionary entry. Fifth, issues of speech culture and syntactic norm are also significant for their fixation in the dictionary
