“In the frightful glow of Bellona's fire” (The year 1812 in K.N. Batyushkov's lyric poetry)

Abstract: The article focuses upon the poems by K.N. Batyushkov reflecting his impressions of the 1812 war and the foreign campaign of Russian army in 1813-1814. The contributor traces changes in K.N. Batyushkov's lyric poetry which are connected with the re-evaluation of his former aesthetic principles. Batyushkov's innovations in developing the military theme, the subsequent transformations of traditional lyric genres (epistle, elegy) which opened up new perspectives for Russian poetry are substantiated.
