Provincial customs and popular beliefs in Elizabeth Gaskell’s “Cranford” and its TV version

Abstract: The article analyzes provincial customs and popular beliefs in Elizabeth Gaskell’s “Cranford” (1853) and its TV version (2007-2009). It is supposed that the realist writer used popular beliefs to construct the whole picture of Great Britain of the industrial revolution era in the novel. The authors have made special accent on the specifics of “Cranford” as а film.
