Abstract: The article is focused on the part of the scientific heritage of L. Ginsburg, which is devoted to the study of Russian poetry. In the spotlight — book «On lyric poetry» (1964, 2nd ed., extra ed. — 1974). Special attention is paid to the problems in the light of which L. Ginzburg examines the various periods of the development of lyric poetry from the beginning of XIX to the beginning of XX centuries: tradition and innovation; the poetic word and the context; the emergence of realism in lyric poetry; the forms of expressing author's consciousness in the lyrics, the evolution of lyrical genres. Each of the periods in the history of Russian poetry L. Ginzburg tries to present as something complete and at the same time as included in the general literary process. This approach expresses the peculiarities of historicism as Ginzburg’s scientific method. The author of the article asserts the importance of Ginsburg’s method for contemporary literary studies, emphasizing that not only the findings by L.Y. Ginzburg, but also the questions and tasks derived from her studies continue to provide fruitful undoubted influence on modern literature studies and stimulate further scientific research.
