TEACHING ELEMENTARY LEVEL VOCABULARY IN THE COURSE OF RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract: The article describes a detailed plan of the lesson on the topic «My Nationality» which has been worked out for the elementary level students learning Russian as a foreign language. The content of the article is based on the author’s personal experience teaching the course «Russian Language Vocabulary in RFL». The subject was taught to Chinese students at Ural State Pedagogical University. The lesson aims and its content, as well as the whole course “Russian Language Vocabulary”, are based on the communicative and activity approach in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. The teacher introduces basic vocabulary and useful phrases on the topic «My Nationality», teaches to use the verbs TO LIVE and TO ARRIVE and revises the use of masculine, feminine and neuter gender of adjectives. Four kinds of language activities are practiced in class. Exercises developing students’ monologue and dialogue are included. The subject is not aimed at preparing students for the Russian Certificate Exams but is taught in accord with the requirements to basic vocabulary and thematic plan for elementary level students (the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of April 1, 2014 No. 255 «On approval of levels of Russian as a foreign language proficiency and requirements to it».
