Abstract: The review reveals the novelty of the monograph, its logic and structure, and its contribution to Rasputin studies. The main aspects of the author’s concept of the embodiment of the mother’s principle in the female characters in the works of V. Rasputin, reflecting the national specificity of the typical features of a Russian woman, i.e. child care, family protection, sacrifice, healing. The maternal principle in the writer’s prose is defined in the monograph in a broad sense – compared to the relationships between nature and man. The review notes controversial points in the author’s interpretations and points out opportunities for the use of this research work in practical teaching – at literature lessons in secondary school and in university.
Key words: Rasputin’s studies; the image of a Russian woman; Rasputin’s old woman
