Abstract: Based on the analysis of the secondary school teaching methods and practice of application of theoretical and literary concepts, it was found that the traditionally difficult relationships between schoolchildren and lyrics can be largely attributed to the approaches of the study of the latter. Despite the convincing principle, worked out both in domestic general didactics and in the methods of teaching literature, that the leading role in the acquisition of the educational material belongs to theoretical knowledge, the new Federal Work Program in Literature (2022) and the collection of educational and methodological materials for the pupil and teacher present information from the sphere of literary criticism in a fragmented and non-systematic way. The aim of this study is to identify the range of concepts allowing schoolchildren to perceive (understand) the “image of the world” depicted in the lyrical work and to substantiate the methods for their ordering. The authors of the article introduce the concept of the “individual author’s artistic worldview”, represented through images, pathos of the work and the lyrical subject. Taking into account the “generic” meaning of the lyrics – the expression of mood, the experience of something depicted as personally and emotionally significant – the study substantiates perception as a form of sensory cognition that realizes itself in the reconstruction and imagination of the image embodied in the word. The article proves the need to change the approach to mastering the key stylistic means of creating the image – the metaphor: its presentation and comprehension as a way of embodying the author’s individual view of the world (the artistically transformed world of the poet is realized through the content of the objects brought together by him). Based on the corpus of lyrical works in- cluded in the curriculum of the basic school, the study demonstrates expediency of expanding the types of pathos to be learnt: the inclusion of the idea of artistic ways of life-affirmation (romanticism and idyllic pathos) in addition to the traditionally distin- guished civil, patriotic and heroic pathoses. Particular attention is paid to the introduction of the concept of the lyrical subject and its differentiation from the concepts of the lyrical character and the character of role-playing lyrics.
