Abstract: Reflection in a lyrical poem dominated by meditation often focuses on the preceding genres, both lyrical and epical. The aim of the article is to investigate transformations of the traditional genres in the structure of the lyrical poem of the first half of the 1920s and the plot-driven process of reconsideration of the genre canon. The methodological basis of this study is formed by the works of L. N. Leiderman on the theoretical model of genre and genre memory, S. M. Broitman on the non-canonical poem in the light of historical poetics, G. M. Ibatullina on the literary reflection of creative process, and V. I. Tyupa on the performative origins of lyrics. The study analyzes the mechanisms of the creative reflection related to such traditional genres as ballad, romance, ode, passage, etc. on the examples of the lyrical poems by M. Tsvetaeva, V. Mayakovsky, S. Esenin, and B. Pasternak. It is noted that the poetics of these works is literature-centered, and the emphasis is put on the motif of the meeting of the lyrical subject with an imaginary person from the other world or the subject’s own counterpart. The author concludes that the lyrical poem of the first half of the 1920s absorbs various lyrical and epical genres, transforming their structure to express the complex and multiphase lyrical experience and particularly actualizing the genre memory that refers the readers to the romantic tradition. The event plot typical of a ballad, fairy tale, or lyrical-epical poem allows adding a particular scale to the subjective feelings of the lyrical hero, making them greater and more universal. Small lyrical genres (romance, ode, passage, an epistle) become objects of reconsideration of the lyrical subject of a poem. They also lead a reader to a certain image of world perception, complicating the psychological plot and enriching it with literary associations. The results of this study may be applied to teaching the history of Russian literature of the 20th century in universities and in specialized courses devoted to the development of the genre of poem.
