Abstract: The paper analyzes D. N. Mamin-Sibiryak’s Letters with comments by B. D. Udintsev, published in 2024 by the Moscow publishing house “Pero”. The book under review is a “double” literary landmark: for the first time, letters from Mamin-Sibiryak to his relatives are published in full (the correspondence includes all sources found to date); the comments by Udintsev, which have long been considered lost, come out also for the first time. The author of the paper analyzes the structure of the book and the principles underlying it. Special attention is paid to the history of the creation of the book under review: Mamin-Sibiryak’s letters have been waiting for their reader for almost a hundred years, and the circumstances of their publication constitute a separate page in the history of the Russian culture. In the modern world, the urgency of such publications is associated, on the one hand, with the problem of preserving cultural heritage, and on the other – with the ever-increasing interest in ego-documents.
