Abstract: The paper presents a review of a deep scholarly research, aimed at compiling an exhaustive bibliography of critical works devoted to the literary activity of A. P. Chekhov and published during the writer’s lifetime. It is noted that calling his work a monograph and at the same time an index by the author of the book is justified both by the scale of the study and the integrity of the scientific concept. The review analyzes the composition of the monograph-index and the structure of its article. The review emphasizes the absolute scientific reliability of all materials presented in the publication, which is ensured by the de visu principle. The strict scientific apparatus of the publication and the cross-references accompanying individual articles ultimately create a single information network that covers the entire monograph and turns it into hypertext. The analysis of the publication, conducted in the review, allows the reader to conclude that it has outstanding scientific significance and to characterize it as the most complete commentary on the academic collection of works and letters of Chekhov.
