Abstract: This review provides a general characteristic of the scholarly philological journal “Two Centuries of Russian Classics” and provides an overview of the content and topics covered in the articles published in the 2026 thematic issue dedicated to the legacy of A. P. Chekhov and its reception. It demonstrates that the issue, which contains 19 articles about Chekhov, is unique not only in terms of its length but also in its integration of relevant articles on related topics into a coherent whole: the works complement each other and are perceived as separate sections of a single study dedicated to a new understanding of Chekhov’s creative work. The review notes that the issue’s structure employs thematic and chronological principles. It analyzes the issue’s composition, scholarly novelty, and the logic of its article composition, including several articles devoted to the poetics of Chekhov’s works, the ambivalence and complexity of the writer’s worldview, and the challenges of various productions of Chekhov’s plays. The authors of other works explore the creative appropriation of Chekhov’s artistic and ideological discoveries and the behavioral characteristics of his characters by his contemporaries and followers. The journal devotes considerable attention to biographical moments reflected in the classic's literary legacy and the writer’s remarkable creative intuition, and notes critical reactions to his works. A number of articles by foreign authors investigate Chekhov’s reception abroad, including in the South Slavic countries, as well as in Iran, Turkey, India, and China.
Key words: Russian literature; Russian writers; literary creative work; literary genres; A. P. Chekhov; reception; creative legacy; writer’s worldview; scholarly journals; biographical materials; biographies of the writers; thematic unity
