Abstract: The article is devoted to the issue of self-repetition in the works by M.Yu. Lermontov, which is not exhausted yet, although it has been studied for a long time. Having analyzed different interpretations of the phenomenon of self-repetition in Lermontov’s works, the authors conclude that they may be summed up to two main interpretations of its nature: self-repetition as a reflection of psycho-physiological features of the poet (extraordinary internal concentration, maximalism in spiritual quest and passionate and intensive strive for self-discovery) and self-repetition as manifestation of his creative process (remarkable perfectionism of an artist who is seeking for the perfect embodiment of his ideas). The article describes the perspectives of the research of selfrepetition, which include: the study of «poetic repetition» («double correlation» and «unequally distant in time» poems), which allows to perceive the creative dynamics of Lermontov; the analysis of the repeated images, motives, plots, etc., which gives a better idea about the poets’ creative model of the world. Such research aims at comprehension of the creative individuality of Lermontov, who is still a mysterious figure in the world of Russian literature.
