Abstract: The object of the article is classical text, namely ways of finding out author's attitude in it. This theme can be illustrated by the example of the book «Captain's Daughter» (A. Pushkin) that is studied in the 8-th grade. Review of methodological concepts of studying the novel in school is given in the article. Moreover, the article offers the system of methods to identify the author's position on the stages of perception, analysis and interpretation of the text in the Literature classes. The form is educational dialogue. The general logic of working with the text demands working with the system of characters, the key episodes and recurring motifs in the novel. The peculiarity of the proposed concept of studying is that it's based on individual request of student audience. It allows to provide activity among students, clarify and deepen understanding of the text, and create conditions for the reflection during the work on writing an essay. The proposed system of organizing lessons gives an opportunity to avoid illusory knowledge and misunderstanding of the classical text by students. Materials of the article could be used in preparation for the lessons of literature in high school.
